After recently moving back home to Tampa, I was pleased to find an excellent psychiatric service provider in Dr. Northrup. I greatly appreciate the doctor’s approach to my care: professional, supportive, and collaborative. In addition to his solid experience as a psychiatric practitioner, I’ve found Dr. Northrup does a great job of relating to you as a person. Moreover, his staff are great to work with. The front office staff are communicative and incredibly helpful when it comes to patient support and scheduling.
A few months back, I would have rated Northrup Psychiatry five stars.
My rating today is based on the office’s lack of care, coordination, or consideration since Northrup Psychiatry merged with Solace Behavioral Health. While I respect and appreciate Dr Northrup and his counseling staff, I caution anyone looking to establish with a new provider. The office’s lack of decency is appalling. Seeing the providers isn’t worth the frustration and aggravation of having to deal with Solace’s office/administrative staff.
The office began requesting new insurance cards in December. There were nearly 20 email reminders for patients to “avoid appointment cancellations.” They did nothing with the information when they received it. I had regularly scheduled appointments with my counselor that were extended out about two months. Solace’s administrative waited 3 weeks to confirm which insurance for an appoint I had scheduled the following week. I confirmed my insurance and appointment. To say I was stunned when I was I received a call less than 3 hours before my scheduled time to tell me my provider does not take my insurance is an understatement.
In following up there appears no awareness regarding requirements of the field of behavioral healthcare, care coordination, or even decent human respect.
The billing system is inaccurate and is not reflecting payments I’ve made for previous sessions. I’m being asked to pay again for sessions I’ve already paid for. I did not receive an invoice for six months then last week received a past due notice for $680 for two zoom calls which was supposed to be covered by insurance. I’d like to clarify my frustration with the billing and also state here that I am disputing the accuracy of the statement. I’ve been a patient for a year. I paid two invoices six and seven months ago for reasonable amounts. At that point in time my account was settled with a zero balance. Since then I’ve had two zoom calls, one five months ago and the last two months ago. Nothing more was accomplished in these calls other than to renew a prescription that my PCP had been writing previously. There’s no value in that for me that justifies $680 in addition to whatever was billed to my insurance. I will no longer be a patient here and had I known six months ago what these charges would be I would’ve discontinued my appointments. The inconsistency, lack of transparency and apparent inaccuracy of your billing system is unprofessional and especially so in a mental health environment where financial surprises can be devastating
Dr.Northrup has been a big change in my life. Before entering the office I’ve always had trouble focusing and accomplishing my goals for many many years but every since I took the leap to ask for help, I got more than I bargained for! He has been a wonderful doctor that helped push me to strive for better and our sessions is a constant positive reminder that I’m on the right path to being who I need to be. He prescribes focus and clarity in which I recommend many others to join this experience!
Dr Northrup has been great to work with and has been very compassionate through his process. He truly listens to the problems and provides the best solutions. One of the best psychiatrists I have ever worked with.
